Food Cravings During Pregnancy - Kuching Food in KL
By platinumgirl on May 6, 2009 in Home & Parenting, Foods Galore
As i move into my 4th month of pregnancy, my food cravings has started to kick in. This is partially a good sign as it means that my appetite is back and my morning sickness has ended. However, it is partially not so good because i’ve been craving for foods which are hard to find in KL.
I’ve been craving for Kuching Kolo Mee, Sarawak Laksa, Mee Jawa, Char Kueh (fried carrot cake), Kueh Chap (flat noodles with pork in herbal soup) and many other food that is common in Kuching but not in KL.
Finding in a good serving of Kuching Kolo Mee (some called it Kolok Mee) or even Kolo Kueh Tiaw or Kolo Bihun is like digging for gold in the sand. Anyway, after some serious internet search, i managed to find the nearest original Kolo Mee in a food court located in Puchong called Bintang Court. Its the best that you can taste compared to the other lousy Sarawak Handmade Mee sold in several places around KL. I forgot to took pictures of our Kolo Mee. Price wise, its RM4.30 for a large bowl, RM3.80 for a regular serving and RM2.00 for kosong. You can opt to “pang ang”, meaning Red Kolo Mee with the addition of the char siew gravy. I think no other kolo mee stalls in KL have that.
For Sarawak Laksa, you can have at Nam Chuan in Bangsar or Restaurant Megah Good Luck in Taman Megah Kelana Jaya. IMO, their serving of sarawak kuching laksa is quite okay la .. priced at RM4.50 above per bowl. But i think i cook better ones hehehe. The fella at Megah Good Luck actually also serves Kolo Kueh Tiaw and Tomato Kueh Tiaw or Mee. Teh-C tried the Tomato Kueh Tiaw when i had the laksa last Saturday. The tomato gravy is okay but the kueh tiaw used is the small ones and the stall owner’s kueh tiaw frying technique is not so good as the kueh tiaw tends to stick together.
Now i crave for a good plate of Mee Jawa. But the Mee Jawa sold in KL is totally different as the gravy is watery and appears to be tomato-based. Yucks ! I had Mee Baidali (which is Mee Rebus Johor) in Hartamas last year which is the nearest to Mee Jawa served in Kuching. Pricey for the small serving. My next attempt will be to try this Mee Rebus Rosli located in the city centre. I really hope that its the same as Mee Jawa Kuching …. am so desperate. The best Mee Jawa i had was in Cafe Nori at Ban Hock Road. The portion is enough and the gravy is thick and flavourful. Unfortunately, during my last trip back to Kuching i noticed that the owners were different, so i guess there goes another good food place down the drain.
I am wondering if the original Mee Rebus Johor is the same as Mee Jawa in Kuching. Anyone knows ?
Sorry for the lack of pictures in my posts lately. I am trying to update this blog more often and will attempt to include pictures next time.
