Migrating to the US, Canada, Australia ??
By platinumgirl on Apr 17, 2008 in Coffee Talk
Teh-C and I have been thinking of migrating lately. This is of course not something new as we’ve had that thought for quite some time. Now that we’re in KL, its a step closer though. The embassies are here in KL and if we need to submit our applications or go for interviews, its just much easier.
We’re thinking of US, Canada or Australia. I’ve had the chance to chat with some friends. Some of them prefer Australia basically because its nearer, the weather is more bearable and perhaps jobs are aplenty. US is a no-no because of its current economic situation and perhaps PR are much harder to get. Canada is apparently a place for retirement but Teh-C’s friends say that they lack of people (meaning job opportunities?) and moreover, the population is growing very slowly due to the fact that they are not into having kids.
What do you think ? Which country should we seriously consider and which is easier to get a job and the PR ?
We cannot afford at this moment to actually go over there first and get a job. We’ll have to take the slow way, basically waiting for an offer to come. But for Australia, the jobsites usually state that you must have the right to work in Australia ?
What are the rules when applying for PR ? Do you need to pay first and what if it gets rejected ? Gosh, so many to think of. There’s money and there’s money.

best if you can find a company in Australia willing to sponsor you as an employee first, then when you come over on a working visa then apply for permanent residency later. Australia needs skilled workers the most and I think a lot of employment agencies are looking for workers in the Philippines. I don’t really know where you can start to look but maybe try http://www.centrelink.gov.au/ first. Good luck

I lived in Alabama in the U.S. for 6 years and am now living in Perth, Western Australia (not by choice, I might add!) and I have to stick by the U.S. through and through. Personally, not looking at the economy, the war, etc. etc., but just talking about the lifestyle and what it was like to BE there, the U.S. is amazing, in my opinion. It has a place for ANYBODY. Mobile, Alabama was quiet, rather small, and with a definite friendly Southern atmosphere. I was so proud to call it my home. And this is saying something as I was born and lived in Ukraine for most of my life, yet I’m thoroughlly patriotic to Alabama - it is my home, not Ukraine, not Australia.
The people are friendly, the rate of violent crime is lower than that in Australia, and I thrived in the weather. Yes, Alabama is very humid, but for me, it was perfect. I loved hurricane season - it was thoroughlly exciting.
My family and I took road trips from Alabama to California and back, then to Chicago and bag, and to the Niagara Falls and back, and saw so many different places and people. But in the end, Alabama truly was the best place to live.
Good luck, whichever country you choose!

Hello! We think of moving to US, Canada or Australia too. B/f prefers US, but I think, that people there are freaks… You know, because they believe so strongly in Christian god and because they shot them self there. I’m from middle Europe - Slovakia. The prices here are much higher than what they show on the US web and the payments for jobs are much lower… And we are paid in dollars and everywhere you buy less and less things for it, except of America… Another thing is, that I study on university and my university title is accepted only in the countries of EU, so if I would want to get a good job, it would be harder. It would be like I have never studied…
And I think, that in Canada and Australia are more normal people, but it might not be true… It is just what I think.
Out work may be done everywhere with PC and internet, so the job is not a big thing… Only if I would want to do something else…
and who make the hell of the live, sometimes… Maybe after the Euro the Dollar - Euro exchange will be better… But then the prices may go higher… It is a hard question
And Canada and Australia always seemed to me as a nice place. Canada as the country of forests - I love forests and Australia as the beach country with lovely underwater life
We would like to save some money, buy a house in the country we choose and then move or migrate
But I like Slovakia too… It is my mother country, my lovely little hard of the Europe with stupid politics, who want only wealth for them selves

One word…. it is tough!
And have to spend a lot of $$$$!
Also, you must get a PR before any company will take you in. And to qualify, first you must take IELTS for English before your application. And the agent fees is AUD6-7K for family migration. On top of that, you will need at least AUD80K to settle down in the first year coz you can’t buy any properties until you get some approvals.
And for Canada… even more far fetch… you need to have RM700K in personal saving before they will even consider your application!

According to my dad’s friend who is staying in Australia that came back here for a holiday last week, he said it will be easier to get a job in Aus if you have nursing qualification. They need nurses now. If you have it, then they will consider you immediately.

Yes, I know you don’t but you can take up nursing course if you want :p Hahaha… That’s what my father’s friend suggested to those that want to migrate to Aus hahahaha… But of course, if it’s not your interest no point also.
