All Delight Cafe, Kuching

| Visit here if you are shopping for truck bed liner |

Hubs (Teh-C) and I went to All Delight Cafe some 2 weeks ago. It is located in Hui Sing and you can practically see it because its at the corner shop, just near the Magnum 4D shop in the row of shophouse that faces the roundabout. My colleague, Miss K, went there once and gave a good review, especially about their delicious sea cucumber soup and abundant claypot tofu. They have just recently renovated and although our previous experience was pretty much forgettable and should i just say lousy, we thought that their chef might have changed along with the renovation and so with Miss K’s recommendation, we headed there about 2 weeks ago.

First impression, wow there are lots of people eating in there. Still, this is not an indication of good food as sad to say that Kuching ppl are very sakai (or maybe just the total opposite when it comes to good food) as new establishments and worst, those that serve lousy and expensive food, would have many customers. Anyway, here’s our order ..

all-delight-cafe_sea-cucumber-soup.JPG

First to come, the sea cucumber soup @ RM10. Aiya Miss K, why so lousy one? The soup had the right thickness but it can labeled as thick egg soup as it didnt had much sea cucumber in it nor other ingredients. The best sea cucumber soup i tried before had reasonable amounts of shredded carrots, chicken meat, egg and lots of thinly sliced sea cucumber (which is great as the texture is kinda rubbery so thinly slicing it makes it more edible). Moreover, no black vinegar was put into the soup nor was it provided and i had to ask for it.

all-delight-cafe_braised-tofu.JPG

Braised Tofu @ RM8. Deep fried japanese tofu braised in gravy and cooked with mushrooms and snow peas. I wanted to try the claypot tofu that Miss K recommended but i didnt see any mention of claypot in the menu so i thought that Braised Tofu should be the one. My bad, it wasnt. This dish was not salty enough and heck it was about Rm1 per piece as we had exactly 8 pieces on the plate. Pretty expensive and Teh-C said that it was the worst tofu he had. My opinion is so-so la, not that bad but not really nice either.

all-delight-cafe_sambal-brinjal.JPG

Stir fry brinjal with sambal @ Rm8, i think. This dish was not so nice either. The whole dish was very dry, even the brinjal’s skin was kinda dry. Either they didnt blanch it long enough before stir frying or they over cooked it that the skin somehow became dry. Aiya 3 dishes down (and suck) and 1 more to go.

all-delight-cafe_homestyle-claypot-beef.JPG

Last dish to come, the homestyle claypot beef @ Rm10. Blardy hell, another dissappointing dish. The waiter recommended this dish and said that milk is used. Cheh, the meat was tough and the gravy/soup is thin and mild. In short, a failure.

The rice was very dry too.

The cafe was heavily understaffed and the staff are freaking slow i tell you with bitter gourd stuck to their faces, if you get my meaning :)

Name : All Delight Cafe (same row with Magnum-4D at Hui Sing)

Tel : I better start keeping receipts but with stars of 3-5/10, no point.

Food rating : 4.5/10 but Teh-C gives 3/10. In general, lousy food.

Service rating : 3/10. Slow responsed sulky face staff.

My recommendation : Wont recommend but your tastebuds maybe different :)

Coming soon … a good food review of a fairly new chinese eating outlet.

  5. annna - yeah lor. Lee Ming ar. No thanks. Tried there once. Food there not really that nice, portion so freaking small and so blardy expensive. Their pork ribs portion is like half of what i eat outside and Rm2 more expensive.
