Verinice Cafe

I may probably be the 2nd Kuching blogger to blog about this new ‘makan’ (eating) place called Verinice Cafe in Kuching as I googled the name and only found 1 other blogger to have blogged about it.

Anyway, my dad was the one who introduced Verinice to me. He said that the food there is not bad, hence i will of course give it a try. Got good food, who doesnt want right ? So i went with Teh-C one saturday afternoon with my baby. Dear lil baby was already asleep in the car on the way to Verinice.

verinice_baby.JPG Hehe. A peek at my sleeping cutie !

Verinice is located in the row of shophouse next to Cui Xiang Garden (also near to the Johor BakkutTeh place and Rasa Indah). The shop was formerly occupied by a place serving Taiwan food, which in my opinion was pretty forgetable if you know what i mean).

We ordered the following …

verinice_drinks.JPG Kopi C Special & Teh C Special

This was the first time i drank Kopi C Special. Saw it in the menu and i just had to try it. As for Teh-C, his name speaks for his drink itself :P

verinice_butterprawns.JPG

Butter Prawns @ Rm15. This was the first time i had Butter Prawns served in a claypot with accompanying Deep Fried Man-tou (Plain buns) plus … look at those gravy. 1st time Butter Prawns served with so much gravy. I love it :)

verinice_fruitsalad.JPG

Fruit Salad @ Rm3.50. This one was normal. Nothing special. Portion was ok for the price. But the fruits was cut in uneven sizes and not properly cut cause got some pineapple and apple with their ‘eye’ (you know the black dots) and top ‘black hairy part’ still attached. Eeew !

verinice_mongolian-chicken.JPG

Mongolian Chicken @ Rm 8. This one was quite nice but should have more oomph to the sauce. They used thigh meat, which is the part i like. Dont really like breast meat cause kinda dry and tough.

verinice_fourbeans.JPG

Four Beans … @ Rm 6. The look is not really appetizing but the taste was alright. Stir-fried with sambal. its called Four Beans something. Deluxe ? One funny thing is taht it appears cabbage (see picture) is one type of bean ?!! Hehehe.

Anyway, the food here pretty good. Price is normal. Not expensive considering the portion served. They also serve rice dishes and a variety of noodles. They have some cantonese or west malaysian dishes and i thought that maybe the chef or owner is west malaysian. Got to know from the waitress that the young boss aka chef is from Bau. Bau Boleh !

Yesterday, we went to Verinice again. Ha, twice in a week ! I had the Oat Fish Fillet Rice and Teh-C ordered their specialty, Verinice Noodles. I also ordered an extra Mamex Lamb (should be Marmite ler). Pictures below.

Left: Oat Fish Fillet Rice @ Rm4.80. Sorry my pics pretty lousy. Oat Fish Fillet served with rice and some stir fry vege. Quite nice though a bit on the dry side cause no gravy. Lucky they provided soup.

Right: Verinice Noodles @ Rm5. Hmm, not good in my opinion. No wok-hei and not salty enough.

verinice_mamexlamb.JPG

Mamex Lamb @ RM10. Woo, this one quite nice. I never eaten any dish stir fried with Marmite before. The meat was tender and the sauce is sweet and sticky and all in all. Delicious.

All in all, after 2 visits, i would sum that the food here is pretty good. But service from staff are not that good. Dont really smile. Then there is this one auntie, tall and wearing specs, her face ar like so arrogant and dont smile. Hello ! You work in a cafe, must serve customers with a natural smile lor.

Name : Verinice Cafe (along Petanak Road)

Tel : (sorry i didnt keep the bill, so no phone number but the shop is easy to find)

Food rating : 7/10. So far, all we tried was good except for one or two dish.

Service rating : 6/10. Staff not courteous enough.
