Family Friendly Places

As you should know by now, I live in Kuching, which is the capital of the Sarawak state, one of the 13 states in Malaysia.

This city is developing. You can expect at least 3 new shopping malls by the year 2008 which includes The Spring, Boulevard Mall and the Green Heights Mall. The new Sarawak Convention Centre is also currently being constructed. Then there’s the new 4 star hotel just behind Hilton Hotel, which includes an upscale shopping mall.

However, despite all the developments in the city, it is still ‘underdeveloped” in certain ways. I’m sure foreigners and locals alike, including myself, are dissappointed to see that local malls lack of family rooms that includes nappy changing and nursing rooms. Imagine this, you go out shopping with your baby and suddenly he poo-poos (shits). Where can you change his/her diapers? On the floor ? In KFC ? On the wet basin of the super cramped toilet?

Providing the facility itself is not enough alone. It should be complete. I’ve been to Jusco departmental stores and it is absolutely great. They have this nursery room. In the room, there are 3 changing tables complete with padded cushions for the baby. 2 long waiting chairs. 2 nursing rooms. A large rubbish bin. Deep sink with soap and they even have a hot-cool water machine.

So far i’ve emailed to The Spring and also Green Heights mall and asking/suggest about the nappy changing facility? Not even one single reply from them. Any company should be courteous to answer all emails or inquiries that come in. There is no point if you put up an email address for people to contact you if you never actually read your emails or bother to reply them. Rude and simply stupid is the word !

With the development that is going on in Kuching and entire of Malaysia, developers should be considerate enough to implement family friendly facilities into their plans. I’m still waiting for that ‘miracle’ to happen.

If dont drive, then how leh?

Developers in Kuching never think of this. Its either that or they just kiamsiap and think Kuching parents stupid

  3. Expecting email reply from the local companies? The chance is so slim… Wait till sky fall down also they won’t reply you also and this goes to those companies in West Malaysia too. *shake head*

  4. Fair enough its their fault that they didnt send you a reply. But its too late to suggest this to places like the spring because construction is already going on, plans are already drawn, and small changes like this includes extra paperwork that no one wants to handle. They are already having enough problems trying to complete the project in time.

And its developed by a west Malaysian company.. haha. what a shame.
