Li Garden Restaurant @ Hock Lee Centre, Kuching

I think i will now on refer my hubby as Teh-C and not MAN as it is easier for people to remember i guess. Anyhoo, my darling Teh-C brought me to a Chinese restaurant for dinner on Saturday, the day i went for the blogger meet. And guess where he brought me .. it was Li Garden Restaurant.

Yay. He booked a table for us 2 days in advance and also booked the famous and delicious Peking Duck. We tried this before about 2 years ago when a friend of ours treated us. Li Garden was very crowded. Tables and tables had reservation cards on it and there was a small birthday party as well. Lucky my hubby booked a table. *Smiles*

Nothing is complete without photos to enhance description ….

scallops-with-asparagus.JPG 1st up, our Scallops with Asparagus (RM20). Its not so good. The asparagus was over-cooked. The scallops was a tad too small. The gravy not salty enough.

pekingduck.JPG

Next, the captain brought the Peking Duck (RM50) over in a trolley. Usually its the Main Chef, but it was very crowded that day, so i guess the Chef was busy. (2) The cutting of the duck’s skin (3) The crispy, shiny looking skin on the plate. Yummy !

pekingduck-wrap.JPG

Tortilla-like wraps were given to wrap the Peking Duck skin along with (2) cucumber sticks and sweet plum sauce. (3) The deep fried duck meat. Actually, they usually cook the duck meat after cutting it into cubes, together with some pepper. But i didnt like it, so i asked for them to just deep fry it. Unfortunately, it was too salty and a bit over fried.

butter-prawns.JPG

Butter Prawns (RM18). I’ve read good reviews on this dish and it lived up to my expectation. Utterly delicious i tell you. The prawns were succulent and reasonably big, covered in a sweetish, slightly spicy butter milk sauce.

champagne-spare-ribs.JPG

Last but not least, the Pork Spare Ribs with Champagne (RM10). This one is very good as well. Sweetish sourish sauce covers the soft pork ribs meat and topped with sesame seed.

The bill came up to about RM105 ++. Quite expensive for a dinner for 2, but once in a while it was ok la. It was the duck that was expensive. Service from staff was so so nia. The captain (short hair, specs, black coat, old) who took our order wasnt friendly and cant even understand proper English. Restaurant owners should make English as one of their main hiring requirements. Just because your restaurant serves Chinese food, doesnt mean that all your customers can speak Hokkien or Mandarin. I do, so lucky for me.
