Beware of Scamming Companies. Exwell Electric, Possible Scammer ?
By on Jun 3, 2007 in Coffee Talk, Warnings
Note: Kind of long post, but good warning for consumers in Kuching.
Now there are scammers everywhere. Some of them are actually registered companies that pretend to sell electrical appliances. They distribute vouchers, mostly in shopping malls, on the pretense that they are promoting their products and you can get free products when you bring their voucher to their shop.
I have encountered such companies. Now this is not my first time. The 1st was in Sarawak Plaza. I knew they were out to cheat me but i just wanted to try for fun and see if i can get free stuff. This is the modus operandi of the S’wak Plaza outlet. Their reps are in the shopping malls where they usually have their outlet there, distributing their vouchers. They will say that they are giving out free stuff for the sake of promoting their products. So being a tempting offer, possible idiots buyers go to their shop with the guide of the fella distributing the voucher. They will ask you to sit down in front of a computer. They will ask and enter your name and ic. Then the bloodystupid software asks you what brands do you think is good. Blablabla. Next, they ask you what products you are interested - home theatre, massage chair etc. Next, you will be asked if you have these cards - bonuslink, visa, mastercard etc.
Then they ask you to choose 3 boxes out of 9 boxes given and see if you are lucky. In between i forgot what happened but if i remember correctly, i won a home-theatre (which i suspect was because i earlier said i’m interested to buy so and so products) but i have to buy something using the RM100 voucher given. The fella say i’m so lucky and then called his manager said to be in KK. He told the manager that i won this and then he passed the phone to me. The manager explained bla bla bla …… and then asked me to pass the phone back to the fella. So i must buy one of their products in order to get the free product. The home theatre was RM3000+ i think. But take note that all their products are priced at least Rm2000 ++. It will appear as if you pay RM2k but you get RM4k products. They will try to convince you by saying that if you can find the same brand of product at a cheaper price outside, they will refund you. Hahaha ……… mana ada? I dont even recognise their brand. Plusss they say you can buy the products by credit card installments. Double haha. I just declined, several times in fact cos they tried to persuade me. Took the free pen and left.
The most recent case was at Crystal Complex, BDC. I was leaving the supermarket when this 18 to early 20s boy approach me. I decided to try again. Got soybean maker, oven, slimming belt, etc with one being a mystery gift. I, being sarcastic, said the mystery gift is not some pen is it? The fella said no. I asked whats the catch and he said nothing, just that their office has opened for a year already but not many customers know them, so they are doing this promotion to give their products (depend on what you win) by just paying Rm5 and at the same time, promote their products.
So i followed the fella to their office. It was on the same floor with Crystal Bowl. Out of the lift, on the left side. The fella went in and asked a girl to come out and serve me. She later said “Ah Ee, pls have a seat there”. Blardy crap (KNNCCB if i may say so), i look so old meh. Btw, i am only in my late 20s la. Sit in front of the computer. Same trick, think ppl so outdated meh, know nothing about computer!!? She asked for my name and ic. I give but not really full name. Entered and then said to me, oh you have never come here, so you are eligible for this promotion, then proceeded to ask me (based on the software) what method of advertisement is the best to attract ppl. Got four choices - newspaper, magazine, radio and tv. So i have her the answer and even explained to her.
Then she asked me what newspaper i read. I said Borneo Post. Then she brought out a file containing newspaper cuttings of advertisements they put in the paper to show me as proof of their company’s efforts to advertise. Next, she ask me what card i have - bonuslink, real rewards, visa, mastercard. She said their company just joined Bonuslink and we can later exchange the Bonuslink points for their products, pointing to their products and the points displayed. After that she asked me to click on the 9 boxes shown. All i got was the mystery gift. Guess what it was .. a stupid eye gel wrap. I declined .. Rm5 for a stupid eye gel wrap. It must be worth RM1. I asked her if there is any second chance. She said no and so i left empty handed. Who cares, except i wasted my time.
I noticed 2 things …. they stored my IC number, which may be for illegal use (so becareful and check your bills) and they never really promoted their products in the office. So much for introducing customers to their products campaign. It must be a scam.
So if you are in Kuching, well in fact no matter where you are, if there is such a ‘promotion’, dont be easily fooled. Where got ‘kap la chui kai thiu’ (sort of easy money come) ?
Btw, i just emailed Bonuslink to check if they really just registered to be their Merchant. I just dont get it, why doesnt our Malaysian Government banish these companies or do a spot check more often? Malaysians are being conned because the government dont give a shit damn on what is happening.

Yea yea.. Met them in Swak Plaza too but didn’t even bother after getting the coupon from them.
Finally have updates in here hehehe… Oh ya, in tyour first post my link is wrong, you forgot to add “http://” in front of the link. Will add this blog in myLink page.

Hi there,
I saw your comment in Wuching’s post. There are a few Penangites, including myself in your list. Maybe you can get some of them to assist you when you are in Penang. Christina YY would be a good choice. Cedric is having his exams and I myself travels a lot so am not sure if I am available. When will you be down in Penang? Just let me know in my shoutbox. Thanks

Hello all,
Ok. I’m curious myself and so i go to the 1Borneo Shopping Centre (KK) and check out the so called Exwell Electronics Sdn Bhd. I got to know them through company dealings actually. They approach us to ask my company to help find permanent event space rental in shopping centres in Sabah. But at the moment no space available yet. No prob there. Even my boss don’t want to (more like can’t since we’re busy) deal with them.
Anyway, I went into the shop and chatted up with them. They let me to their computer and started with the ’select-3-out-of-12′ game with 2 are actually nothing and i will get the 3 items for rm5 only if i’m lucky. And I was lucky. I got their ‘Jackpot’ and got to select 3 more items plus a mystery gift (a car perfume/refreshener) out of the 3 tries.
Then I got to go to the next round (from hitting the jacpot which enables me to select 3 more items). This time i got 3 chances out of 16 box in which, 13 of it are nothing!
So as lucky as i can get, I got ’something’ from my 3rd try. the 1st and 2nd try got nothing. I click for the 3rd time and got shown this ‘map’. It’s actually a picture of a map from a game.
They started to get exited. They said “WOW! You’re very lucky! No one have ever been this far a level before!” So they get a flyer with a few selected items which i can select 1. So I selected the Waist Slimming thingy (out of curiosity (^_~)).
Then they said to me. “OK! Now, try to find the thing in the picture!” I was thinking ‘WHAT?! In this piece of map which got nothing at all that looks like any of the items shown??!!!’ Then they added “Don’t worry, miss, we’ll help you find too!”So They give me hints on where to click which might be the item… I still didn’t get what they meant so I asked them how the click-on-the-item-hidden-in-picture-thing can win me my waist slimming thing when the picture is just a map?! They are being helpful by saying “Oh! Easy! Just have to click on the map that hinted or resembles the product I’ve selected. Like this part,” she points at the map. “It looks like a waist to me so it might be the thing you’ve chosen,”… I was like….HUH?!….
While looking at the picture, I silently click outside of the picture boundry and drag the cursor to the other end of the picture to highlight it to see if there are any hidden picture links (I’m an IT Grad so i was checking for pre-shaped links on certain area in the map/picture) but the picture got no special link and it’s only 1 picture (-_-)
Not wasting anymore time, I said, “OK. Here goes nothing!” and I click at the area that’s-look-like-a-waist-to-me (^_^) Then Pops! The computer revealed something…They were dumbstruck (looks like it or their acting is really good) and asked me “Are you sure u only click once?” and i said “Yeah… Why?” Then they got up and went to their supervisor. A bit of a commotion or should i say drama? and
the supervisor got back to me and said, “Congratulations! This is a rare moment indeed! You’ve just won 3 items, 1 home theater system set, 1 pulse massager, and 1 shark infra red massager and all is worth RM4,800++! What’s more, you’ve also been given RM100 voucher! This also means that, you’ve just won a special prize and you’re selected as our Product Idol!”
So I was like, “really?! Wow! So do I get the items now?” and they said yes! So was sort of thinking wow…really? for real?! Then they added “Oh btw, the voucher must be used today or the whole deal will not work. The deal is 1. Take photo with them to show that I’ve won and become their product idol; 2. I will have to promote the items (no need to go house to house. just tell friends about where u bought the 3 items from although you’ve won them); and 3. (I forgot XD)
I said ok. So what are the RM100 things? then they show their ‘big guns’ and said i can only use the voucher on any of these items (each about RM2800++). I said “What?! So expensive?!” Then they said, “Not to worry. Can do intallment payments of 12 months, 24 months or 36 months! and you got the 3 items you’ve just won worth RM4800++ and a mystery gift! All I need is ur credit card,” So I indulged them and gave a card (already max credit so the card cannot be used until i pay all :P) and waited for the supervisor to do my purchases (oh and i selected the water filter).
Now i got to claim the 3 items + water filter(purchase) + mystery gift.I sat back and watched as the supervisor came back to me with my card and a puzzled look. He said that my card can’t be used (I know that already) and if i got another card? I said “I’m sorry… That’s the only card I have…How?” then he told me that I got choice either to pay in cash which is not possible at the moment or i can pay deposit first to book this promotion and come back another day to pay for the water filter. I’m not stupid but I’m curious. So I ‘volunteered’ my self. I take the booking option. I pay the min amount RM 150 and said I will come back that same night. They said ok! I was close to a sales lady and she said to call her if i’m coming so that she can make-up to look prety for the photo session (she’s new it seems to their business).
Ok so i got back home with car perfume (1st mystery gift) and give them about 2 hours and called them again. Then I told them that My parents want me to decline the prizes that I’ve won in the promotion as we will me moving away soon (which of coz is a lie) and can I have my deposit back? They said the deposit is not refundable (which does not surprised me though usually deposits are given back) but can come back to select items that’s worth around RM150. (If there are any?)
Well folks. I got to stop here for a bit as I will go back there again to see what are the items that’s worth RM150. I’ll tell you all about it in my next post.

Hello Again XD
For my case, I’m saved by my max-out credit card. I went back there to return the written receipt that they accidentally given me for the Deposit of RM150, which I did not make any payment to them at that time (I did not give them the cash when my card can’t be used though I took the receipt for the illusive deposit XD)
To Paul & Jared: did u return the items to them? If not mistaken they did mentioned to me that if you don’t like the items, can always bring back to them to exchange for another item. I think we can bring it back to them and tell them we don’t want any exchange and demand your money back. Even if they can’t return the deposit money, at least you don’t have to pay the whole sum of it… just make sure u are there when they cancel ur order/ contract/ receipt. But I’m really not sure if it’ll work out well. I think have to go to your credit card bank to ask if the payment can be recalled…

I had become one of the victim too…and try to return back all the products…at first they not allowed, after a long conversation, in the end they allow me to return but unfortunately have to wait after a month, now im waiting the time coming and see if they really refund my money back…damn shit!!!

i’m one of this scammer victim..
I had just faced the same exact situation at ecohood, lundu, yesterday (31/10/2009). They used all the same tactics and strategy to make us interested for the offers.
For the 1st offer, i get free of charge gift about RM4000++ and voucher RM100. but i have to buy their product around RM2000++. i spend RM2899 cash for the energy water system that price Rm2999-RM100 (voucher RM100).
then, the manager call the staff, tell me that i’m the one of their icon product because i bought the energy water system just now, and i have to answer 4 question to get another free gift (around RM7000+++ & voucher RM150, and also have a chances to go to ecohood annual dinner and get free ticket to go either, australia, japan or jerman. i’m convinced to buy their product with the voucher RM150, the product is about RM3280-RM150=RM3130 (induction cooker). but i tell the staff, i don’t have the cash to pay them. after that, they asked me just to pay deposit RM300 cash, then the balance RM2830 will be paid after the staff of ecohood help me to sale my induction cooker and also master filter. in that situation, i feel interested not (was-was) for the 2nd offer and aggreed.
1st offer, i bring back the product, but 2nd offer, all free gift and the produt that i bought, is still with them because RM2830 not paid yet. the staff promise to send the VIP dinner ticket later.
dear all, what must i do??? coz i spend RM3199
cash for the not quality product, do not have a SIRIM number, and also i do not know the energy water system is safe to use or not because i dont used it yet. i feel that i’m been cheated after, my younger brother tell me the same case, and i also check in the internet about ecohood product, suddenly find this website. i don’t know what to do with all this situation..please help me to get my money back..

Yeah I met those scammers just recently in Everise. They made it sound like I could win some fancy electronics just by filling some darn vouchers at first (looks like greed got the better of me then..). When they asked for my IC and CREDIT CARD I immediately realized I have been dragged into a scam… But it was too late to back off then, so I played along with caution.. Luckily I only got off with a stupid green eyepatch thing that took me RM5 and 20 minutes of my precious time.
Liew | Nov 17, 2009 | Reply
Another thing I notice is that you always win a ‘mystery gift’ in their game, which could be anything they want it to be. I told them I didn’t have any credit cards, so my mystery gift obviously turn out to be something as cheap as an eyepatch, cause they assume they cant scam me into buying 3k electronics.
Liew | Nov 17, 2009 | Reply
I have already claimed back the money. They gave me cheque. I went straight to the police after reading this blog. Two insp followed me the con-shop and conmen gave me the claim form, filled, and I asked them to sign with their company stamp on the copy of claim form. Please don’t hesitate to bring this issue to the police. But the worst thing is the shop is still operating…

Hello, everybody. I was the staff Exwell. I was been terminated 5 months ago. i worked in One Borneo. They terminated me because I didn’t have sale for 6 months. I was upset and sad because I had to leave my poor friends right after that…
I return to my old work place weeks ago just want to see how’s going of my friends. But, many staffs resigned 3 months ago. Now, there only remain Darent, Sapri and few new Sarawak staffs (they trensfered to here or so I heard). Roddy, Ferah, Cici, Nazwan… all the ex-staffs are work in the new company E-Home. Hey, men! Beware!!! There’s another new scammer company! E-Home. Do you know? Their tactic totally same as Exwell!!! A Johor guy Kelvin Ong (I heard they said) like to make high so customer going to purchase their funny products, like ETV, magic mop. Those stuffs are China products but sell cheaply, please don’t be stupid to purchase such products ’cause it’s cheap… Especially ETV, there’s don’t have TV1, TV2, TV3 channel… Kids want to search blue film or sex video much easy with this stuff. This fucking hell Kelvin Ong (he’s the one “abuse” me when I worked) push his staffs like hell. He thought that bloody E-Home just like his Exwell Empire.
Do you know? All this are voucher sale company or dirty tactic company, like to punish their staffs if they can’t achive thier target… Quite pity…

I also encountered the same situation as most of the people mentioned in this page. My husband and i travelled to Miri, Sarawak recently and we shopped around at E-Mart Miri and suddenly a lady approached and gave us a voucher said that it’s X’mas last day promotion of their product which we can use RM 5 to buy one of their selected products.Sitting in front of the stupid computer and playing their stupid game. Then the screen show us that we won a set of home teathre and a sit of massage machine which both worth 4k+….he even demostrate us how to use it…bloody hell…we must accept their 3 conditions in order to get the prize..1st…take photo with them as an evidence they are giving out the prize for ‘FREE’…2nd is the prizes cannot be sold and must be recommended to friends and relatives. Last condition is must use their 100 cash vouhcher to purchased their item in that current day..The items that they asked us to purchased all are 2k and above….That sucks! All these are cheat!!! So People please beware of their ECOHOOOD as they have many branch all over the states…M’sia Government shoud take action against this company…Not only M’sia Citizen got cheated but also the tourists…..

Blank, just lodge a police report. And ask the bank to cancel the transaction. The bank needs your police report inorder to cancel the payment. If can ask the police to follow you to the shop and ask back the money like I did.

Everybody, be careful!!! There’s another company. Beware E-HOme!!! It’s a fake company, cheating people by selling the China products. They sell with high price but actually the cost just cheap price. Do you know? I found a magic mop in Lahad Datu just sell for RM98 only. But, do you anybody notice in One Borneo, E-Home sell RM378!!! They have branch in Karamunsing, City Mall and 1 Borneo. I know their ABS. Kelvin Ong, Tang Meng Chun, and… (I don’t want to mention) are the in charge…

Men. I got many case from complaint of people. The ex-staffs of Exwell, Tommy Wu and Tang Meng Chun watch yourself!!! What have you done to those customers, you know. Ade customer putih2 kna swap RM10,000 dgn cume wat first sale. Makan duit kompeny brp sndiri tau, jgn susah kn family org!!!
Hahaha…. Exwell dh kna sapu oleh org2 Perdagangan n Hal-Ehwal Pengguna, x lama lg Home E-tech, n Aowa. Gladyce is the supervisor of Aowa. Pandai swept habis kdt kad org bribu lebeh sdangkan bru purchase 1 brg, x mungkin capai RM10,000!!!
Beware of Aowa staffs. They’re cheating people!!! There’s a woman name Gladys, very fat woman wearing the thousand degree glasses, aiming the rich people (they concern value people @ potentional citizen). This FUKING Gladys has team, who are Si Badut (the shortest guy who most close to her), spect-guy bodak and Si Hitam Bodak. They’re the deadly slaughter of rich people. So, becareful of government staffs… Your credit card and cash are their favor.
