Gawai is a celebration to celebrate the Harvest Festival by the Dayaks. It falls on June 1 every year and the public holiday lasts for 2 days. This year, it so happens that our Agong’s birthday falls on June 2, hence the Sarawak Government has declared June 4 as a public holiday.
